Lodi sits close enough to the delta that afternoons usually end with a breeze, and far enough inland that July still hits triple digits. Under most yards you find sandy loam sitting on a layer of clay hardpan, which drains fine right up until it does not. Water reaches that hardpan and stops, and whatever sits on top of it starts to move.
