Swimming Pool Trends for 2015

Swimming pools have always been popular.

In fact, Ancient Greeks and Romans even used swimming pools. Although they weren’t called swimming pools and weren’t for swimming, they were used for training and exercising. Later when modern people started building swimming pools for swimming, they started out really plain. You had white walls, white trim, white floors, white and blue tiles. Very white and plain.

Then, people started creating, designing and manufacturing different pool materials like stones, and tiles of different colors, accessories for your pool and yard and more. Swimming pools became more than just something you swam in, they began to shape as something to entertain around – or in. Swim parties, outdoor BBQ parties with pool festivities, people playing volleyball and water polo in the water was the norm. If you have a swimming pool, chances are you don’t use it like the Ancient Greeks and Romans, you want it to look attractive, beautiful, and colorful; you want the pool of your dreams! If this is the case, and you want to create a swimming pool or swimming pool area that screams uniqueness and beauty, check out the trends below to see what’s happening THESE days in terms of swimming pool design.

Fire & Water

This is a combination that has become really popular. Not only is it popular for its functionality, but it also makes the pool look really cool. There are a variety of “fire” options you can use when it comes to fire and water such as outdoor fireplaces, fire pits and even these large sconces of sorts that hold kindling and the fire. You can place these closer to the pool for a more dramatic effect of the flames dancing off the glare in the water, or you can place them further away for a less dramatic experience, but still impactful just the same. By the way, these aren’t just for cooler weather either, you can use these for hot weather too. We carry Pebbletec’s Fire & Ice products, which are the nest on the market!

As mentioned earlier, when swimming pools started to be used for swimming, they were really quite plain and usually made from white plaster. But, these days you can actually add materials to the finish to add layers, colors, and an aesthetic look you just can’t beat. Some people choose dried grass, recycled glass, pebbles, stones and more. Essentially, this is not only pleasing to the eye, but it’s also a really cool way to make the pool yours uniquely.

Ledges, Bars and Seating Built In: Yes, you read correctly! One of the most popular trends is actually building built in ledges, bars and seating into the pool! Picture this, an amazing rectangular pool, zero edge, and a built in bar for your guests to swim up to, then they can sit at the in pool seating and chat away with each other. Its definitely one of the top pool construction trends in the Sacramento area.

Level Pools

If you like to swim, you probably have a swimming pool that starts out shallow when you walk down the steps and then as you get further and further in it continues to get deeper and deeper. But, if you want to use your pool for something else, such as sports, you can actually find a builder to make a pool completely level from one end to the other. These pools are great for water sports and fitness / exercising. You can play volleyball or even basketball in the water and not have to worry about it getting deeper or shallower because it’s all the same level.

Outdoor Living Spaces

In the same way the kitchen is the entertainment hub indoors, the pool is soon becoming the entertainment hub for the outside of your home. So it should be no big surprise that more and more homeowners are creating outdoor living
rooms. We aren’t talking one table, one chair either! These are full-on outdoor living rooms with couches, tables, end tables, television sets, and more. You can even add an outdoor fireplace for the cooler months so you can still enjoy it.

Outdoor Kitchens

If you do a lot of entertaining outdoors or at the pool, forget the little BBQ grill you have. These days’ people are building outdoor kitchens with all the bells and whistles including subzero fridges, stoves, dishwashers and sinks. You can also match the pool to your kitchen or visa versa by adding the same colors or the same materials to the countertops or floor of your kitchen as you have for your swimming pool to tie it all in.
